Kristen M. Kalina, Esq.
Family Law Attorney, Supreme Court Certified Mediator.
Kristen Manos Kalina, Esq., practices family law and family mediation in the areas of divorce, child custody, child support, spousal support and premarital agreements. Kristen has 15 years of experience in family law, is an active member of the Virginia Bar and is certified in Mediation Practice by the Virginia Supreme Court. She has done court-appointed family law and civil mediations in Clarke, Fairfax, Frederick, Henrico and Winchester City County Courts, totaling more than 150 family law cases.
Kristen began her career negotiating state and federal regulations in a mediation-style format with various federal agencies. She worked in Ohio as General Counsel for a state-wide trade association representing the petroleum industry and then moved her practice to the DC area in 1997 to become Regulatory Counsel for a nationally recognized petroleum trade association. She practiced primarily in Regulatory-Negotiation (“Reg-neg”) and regulatory Compliance, representing business clients in their negotiation and compliance efforts with the Environmental Protection Agency, the Department of Transportation and the Department of Interior.
In 2010, Kristen began practicing family law in Northern Virginia, representing clients in family litigation matters, primarily uncontested divorce agreements. She quickly realized that it was often in the best interest of the family, especially the children, to find a swift, reasonable and cost-effective resolution to issues surrounding divorce, including custody, support and the division of marital assets. Throughout her career, she became a strong advocate of the mediation process, leading her to seek her VA Supreme Court Certification. She now serves as a VA Supreme Court Certified Mentor for those seeking the same certification in Virginia.
Kristen is currently Vice President of the Board of the Greater Richmond Community Mediation Center. She previously served on the Board of Directors of the Virginia Mediation Network from 2019 – 2025 and served as Chairwoman of the Loudoun County Board of Elections from 2015 – 2025.
Kristen earned a bachelor’s degree from The Ohio State University, and a Juris Doctor from Capital University Law School, where she was a member of the Law Review. Kristen is licensed to practice law in Ohio and Virginia.
